Metro Chicago Hillel is part of Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, an international organization that provides opportunities for Jewish students at more than 500 colleges and universities. Hillel's mission is to enrich the lives of Jewish undergraduate and graduate students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. Hillel student leaders, professionals and lay leaders are dedicated to creating a pluralistic, welcoming and inclusive environment for Jewish college students, where they are encouraged to grow intellectually, spiritually and socially.
Metro Chicago Hillel actively pursues this mission through supporting individual Jewish students and Jewish groups at—and across-- University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU), Illinois Institute for Technology (IIT), DePaul University, Loyola University, Columbia College Chicago, School of the Art Institute (SAIC), Roosevelt University, Oakton Community College, and Lake Forest College. We strive to create a strong Jewish student community on each campus as well as a vibrant, pluralistic Jewish student community across the Metro Chicago Hillel campuses; and to support students as they explore and express their identity as Jews. By connecting students with peers and resources on and beyond their campuses we help them develop a meaningful sense of Jewish community, and sophisticated and sustained Jewish identities.
In addition to specific campus events and activities, Metro Chicago offers great opportunities such as:
- Weekly Shabbat Dinners
