Loyola: Jewish Awareness Week

  • Loyola University - Multiple Locations (map)

Monday:  4/11/16 at 4:30pm on the IC 4th Floor

"Torah Program"
Have you ever seen a Torah scrolled out entirely? Come to the IC to see a Torah spread out across countless tables and experience the magic and beauty of seeing it in its entirety. The Torah was donated to Loyola's IC and dates back to the 1300's (and is worth approximately $250,000!). You'll have the opportunity to hear a few passages from the Torah chanted out loud, ask questions, learn about its special print, and much more!

Tuesday:

"Krav Maga" - Lederer Hall at Emanuel Congregation (5959 N Sheridan Rd, Chicago, IL 60660) from 5:30-6:30pm

Kick some butt with Hillel!  Krav Maga is a self defense training that combines styles like judo, boxing, aikido, and more!  Learn more about where Krav Maga comes from and how you can best defend yourself.  It'll be a ton of fun as well as a great workout!

The event will be hosted at a local synagogue within walking distance of Loyola.  If you would like to come, meet in Hillel at 5:00 PM to walk over together or just be at the place by 5:30.  Make sure to wear comfortable clothes!  We can't wait to see you there!

Wednesday: "Movie Night with Hillel!" - April 13th, Mundelein 204 at 6 PM

Come hang out with Hillel for this chill night.  This movie night will help make your Hump Day better!  Bring a blanket, maybe a pillow, and definitely yourself for this screening!  There will be free food to eat so you can just sit back, relax, sing and dance along, and enjoy this classic Jewishmovie, "Fiddler on the Roof"!

Friday: April 15th, 2016

"Progressive Shabbat Dinner" Time: 7:15 PM

Join the Hillel community for a brand new type of Shabbat!  Learn about all the aspects of Shabbat in this interactive dinner.  Hosted by members of Hillel, we will be traveling around East Rogers Park (all within walking distance!) and at each place will be a different part of the night, from blessing the candles through dinner and dessert!  Spend the night in relaxed, communal settings and eat some delicious food.  It will begin in the Hillel space (Damen 241) and move on from there.  Come for parts of it or stay for it all!
