Tacos and Torah: Special Guest Teach from SVARA at Base Hillel

  • Silverstein Base Hillel 858 West Wrightwood Avenue Chicago, IL, 60614 United States (map)

Join us for a special Tacos and Torah with Monica Gomery of SVARA on Finding the "Queer" in Queer Torah

Gender-fluid patriarchs, two-headed babies, and rabbis spying on other rabbis having sex?! How do queer experiences, people, and lenses open up the Jewish tradition in new ways? We'll explore different strategies for reading our sources queerly. Come study midrashim, rabbinic tales, and stories from Chumash, revealing the queerness alive within the texts and within ourselves.
- All identities and levels of familiarity with both text study and queerness are welcome!

Come to this evening of learning over vegetarian tacos to get a taste of SVARA: A Traditionally Radical Yeshiva and then join us on March 4 for an exciting, immersive afternoon of SVARA & Base learning!

Rabbi Mónica Gomery is a poet, a Talmud teacher, and the Associate Director of SVARA: A Traditionally Radical Yeshiva. She builds queer Jewish community locally in Chicago and nationally through SVARA’s bet midrash learning, and is so grateful and excited to get to know the Base community at Tacos and Torah.
