BASE Chicago

Welcome to Base Chicago!

Base is a home for students, young adults, and their friends -- and the actual homes of four rabbinic couples and their families: Rav Ezra and Laura, Rav Jonathan and Hannah, Rav Sarah and Rav Will and Rav Moshe and Ariana.

Base came to Chicago in 2016 and has since expanded from our original Silverstein Base Lincoln Park to include the Luba & Bernard Friedman Base Loop, Anna & Fred Doppelt Base Andersonville and Base Logan Square! Nationally, the Base Movement is housed at Moishe House and focuses on young adults in their 20s and 30s, while in Chicago all four Bases are also a part of Metro Chicago Hillel and serve both college students and folks in their 20s and 30s.  All Bases are committed to pluralism and founded on three core values: hospitality, learning, and service. We work in close partnership with campus partners as well as many local Jewish organizations!.

Starting on the far Northside, Rav Jonathan and Hannah, formerly of Base Logan Square, welcome you to Anna & Fred Doppelt Base Andersonville. There, they are creating community as well as a lively “base” of Jewish life in glorious and delicious Andersonville.

Heading south on the red and brown lines we arrive at Silverstein Base Lincoln Park, home of Rav Sarah and Rav Will.  They are known for delicious sacred meals, raucous discussion, invigorating Torah- and service-learning, and soulful singing.

Head a little to the west and you can visit Base Logan Square, the home of Rav Moshe and Ariana. They are excited to welcome you to their new home which they are filling with good food, amazing conversation and meaningful learning.

Make your way a bit further south and you can find Rav Ezra and Laura at Luba & Bernard Friedman Base Loop. Rav Ezra and Laura are famous for their middle eastern dishes and monthly song-filled Shabbat morning minyan.

All of our Bases host regular Shabbat and Holiday celebrations, teach one-off and ongoing classes and create opportunities to give back and get involved in the local community. And all of our rabbis love getting to know people like you through one on ones, so check out our pages and reach out!

Metro Chicago Hillel is fortunate to have the first Base in the country integrated into a campus Hillel.

Base is made possible through generous support from the Silverstein Family, Crown Family Philanthropies, Judy & Abel Friedman, Anonymous, and JUF’s Breakthrough Fund.
