High Holidays 2025

High Holidays with Metro Chicago Hillel

The High Holidays are right around the corner, and this year Metro Chicago Hillel and Base have amazing offerings! Click on the links below to view our offerings and register for services and meals.  Advanced registration is required to attend our HHD programming. Holiday services will be led by our fabulous rabbis and are offered on campus, at Metro Chicago Hillel, at our Base locations, as well as around Chicago! The services will feature a mix of traditional prayers, singing, readings and learnings. Our programming is meant to help us connect, honor, reflect, and set our intentions for the year in a way that feels most authentic to ourselves. Email info@metrochicagohillel.org if you have any general questions about our HHD 2025 programming. Please note that, with the exception of our Rosh Hashanah service at DePaul, our HHD programs are restricted to our young adult and student communities. If you are looking for HHD offerings, please https://chitribe.org/highholidays/ for other programs around Chicagoland.

Programming is open to both students and young adults unless otherwise specified. Online registration for Rosh Hashanah will close at 10am on Monday, September 22 and online registration for Yom Kippur will close at 5pm on Tuesday, September 30. If you missed the online registration deadline but would like to see if space is still available, please email info@metrochicagohillel.org.

Selichot

  • Join us for an evening of soul-stirring song to prepare for Rosh HaShanah! We're proud to once again feature our friend and neighbor, Jewish singer-songwriter Steven Chaitman -- the set list is full of traditional melodies typical to the season, as well as Americana tunes with themes of repentance, forgiveness, change, and growth. We'll have ample fall-themed snacks and beverages as usual!

  • During the month of Elul, there is an ancient tradition to add an additional, nighttime or early-morning, prayer service to the rhythm of Jewish prayer, called Slichot. These prayers focus on reminding God of God's essential attributes of mercy, and begging for Divine help in our work of improving ourselves and the world.

On Saturday night, September 20th, at 9:00pm we will be hosting a song filled slichot, using a special liturgy which combines elements of the traditional Ashkenazi (European Jewish) and Mizrahi (North African Jewish) slichot.

  • October 7th Sukkot Dinner and Evening of Song, 10/7/25, 7:30pm

Find sanctuary in community as we mark a difficult anniversary together.

Join us in the Sukkah for a nourishing meal and an evening of reflection through song, poetry, storytelling, and prayer. As we approach the second anniversary of October 7th, we gather not with answers, but with open hearts and the ancient Jewish wisdom that pain shared is pain lessened.
Tonight, we hold space for all that weighs on our souls—grief for lives lost, hope for those who remain missing, longing for an end to suffering, and dreams of a world where all people can live in safety and dignity. We come together as a community that knows how to mourn and how to hope, sometimes in the same breath.

Under the stars peeking through the roof of our Sukkah, we'll find strength in each other's presence.

Whether you come carrying heavy emotions, searching for meaning, or simply needing to be held by community, there is room for you here.
Come as you are. Bring your whole heart—the parts that hurt and the parts that still dare to dream.

  • Join us for song-filled, traditional liturgy, gender egalitarian prayer and a delicious community meal with a cozy, friendly vibe! We'll gather on Wednesday, October 8th at 9:30am. We'll be davening until around 12:30, including a beautiful Hallel, an opportunity to shake lulav, and a dvar Torah from Rav Sarah. This will be followed by an open community lunch in our lovely Sukkah! After lunch, folks are welcome to hang out to sing or play board games. Feel free to join for the whole shebang, come for lunch, or just drop to visit the Sukkah until 3pm.

  • Home and Homeland: Dinner and Discussion with IPF Atid and the Shalom Hartman Institute, 10/8/25, 7:30pm

Step into our Sukkah and feast on the season's bounty while we explore one of the most animating questions of Jewish life: Where is home?

As autumn leaves fall around our temporary dwelling, we'll savor a harvest meal and dive into the complex relationship North American Jews have with the concepts of Home and Homeland. Sukkot invites us to live under fragile roofs and remember our ancestors' journeys through the wilderness—but what does it mean to build a life between worlds? To plant roots in North America while carrying the weight of history and diaspora?
Join us for an evening of rich food, richer conversation, and the timeless Jewish art of wrestling with belonging. Whether you feel anchored in one place or stretched across many, your voice matters in this ongoing story.
